Course Descriptions

Junior Classes

  • Junior Level 1 (5th and 6th)

    Students develop skills to help read intelligently, write well, speak effectively, and listen attentively and taught to analyze and criticize with mind and pen in the reading and writing portion of the class. Vocabulary and grammar are major portions of the class. The course will also preview and/or review math concepts needed for success in 5th grade or 6th grade math. Progress reports are distributed.

  • Junior Level 2 (7th and 8th)

    Students develop skills to help read intelligently, write well, speak effectively, and listen attentively and taught to analyze and criticize with mind and pen in the reading and writing portion of the class. Vocabulary and grammar are major portions of the class. The course will also review arithmetic and algebraic skills needed for success in Pre-Algebra 7 or Pre-Algebra 8. Progress reports are distributed.

  • BA Prep & SSAT

    During the summer, BA Prep course teaches fundamental, challenging math topics based on Algebra I and Geometry. For the essay portion, we focus on developing critical reading and thinking skills and effective writing skills. Until acceptance, the program offers math and essay writing classes and practice exams, reviews, application essay edits, and admission interview training.

    The SSAT summer course is a foundational class that focuses on developing critical reading and thinking skills and effective writing skills and fundamental, challenging math topics based on Algebra I and Geometry that inevitably help students enhance their problem solving and application skills. Practice exams are administered.

  • Book Club (5th to 8th)

    Students spend the course (one of our most popular classes in the summer) reading suggested titles and engage in literary discussions with their peers to encourage their love of reading and deeper critical thinking skills. Students take the lead in interpreting texts with teacher support.

High School Classes

  • Digital SAT

    A comprehensive English and Math course for the Digital SAT and learn tested SAT strategies, and familiarize students with the official Digital SAT testing platform Bluebook and the official calculator Desmos. The class teaches basic English and Math skills and is comprised of lectures, workshops to practice that day’s lessons, and vocabulary quizzes. A progress test that is an official practice exam is administered every few weeks. Weekday workshops are available free of charge during the Spring and Fall Sessions.

  • PSAT

    In this intensive course, we will be examining the PSAT and focusing on a comprehensive overview of the content and concepts within the test as well as the introduction of specific test prep strategies.

  • Geometry

    This fast-paced course covers a full year of Geometry in four weeks in the summer and 20 weeks in the spring and/or fall by addressing the most important traditional geometric topics. Students will develop cooperation, problem-solving, spatial reasoning, and communication skills. Assessments include quizzes and tests. Progress reports are distributed.

  • Algebra II

    In this course, students enrich their algebraic and geometric skills to form the foundation for key concepts in advanced math courses. This fast-paced course covers a full year of Algebra II in eight weeks in the summer and 20 weeks in the spring and/or fall by addressing the most important algebraic functions and equations of lines and higher order polynomials. Students will develop critical thinking skills, pattern recognition, analytical approaches, and communication skills. Assessments include quizzes and tests. Progress reports are distributed.

  • Chemistry

    This course utilizes the principles of chemistry to help explain the physical world around us. Students study the basic principles of matter including measurements, atomic theory, bonding, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, acids and bases, solutions, and thermochemistry. This fast-paced course covers a full year of chemistry in eight weeks in the summer. Assessments include quizzes and tests.
